💧 What does saturated actually mean?

A saturated solution contains the maximum amount of dissolved solute that can remain in solution at a particular temperature. For an ionic solid that is only slightly soluble, the system reaches a dynamic equilibrium between the solid crystal and its dissolved ions.

Particle meaning

At saturation, ions are still leaving the solid and entering solution, but ions in solution are also rejoining the crystal at the same rate. That is why the concentrations stay constant even though particle motion continues.

HSC wording to use

Write: “A saturated solution is in dynamic equilibrium with undissolved solute at a fixed temperature.” Avoid saying the reaction has “stopped”.
